Good Food.

Good Vibes.

Good Times.

You all know the pain of being the "difficult" diner at a local restaurant & bar....

You watch your friends clink pints of tap beer and share plates of comfort food, while you interrogate the waiter about fryer cross-contamination and settle for a dry salad or a bottled cider. The experience is supposed to be about connection, but for anyone following a gluten free diet, it’s usually just a source of isolation and anxiety.

But The Freehouse has completely rewritten the rules of a local venue. Instead of trying to create cardboard-tasting "fake" gluten free "bar" grub, Head Chef Matt Kennedy leaned into brilliance.... he looked to South America. By using authentic, produce-led South American techniques, the entire menu is naturally gluten free by design - without compromising a single ounce of flavour.

Imagine walking into a buzzing neighbourhood local, sitting down with your favourite people and realising the word "No" doesn't exist here.

You can order generously portioned sharing plates without a compromise on flavour. Better yet? You can walk up to the bar and order a cold beer fresh off one of their 15 TWØBAYS taps. It’s the ultimate freedom. You aren't "the gluten free diner" here, you're just a local enjoying good food, good drinks, good company.

The "Safety & Vibe" Snapshot

  • Safety Level: 100% Gluten Free Venue & Kitchen.

  • Cuisine Type: Modern Australian, Produce-Led South American (Naturally gluten free, flavour-first sharing plates).

  • The Vibe: The ultimate local (warm and generous - perfect for unhurried weeknights, chill nights, a place to casually hang out, long-table celebrations and big Saturday nights).

  • Location: Collingwood, VIC

"The Crave List" (Menu Highlights)

What you MUST order when you go...

1

Sazon Fried Chicken

For the gluten free diner, fried chicken is usually the ultimate forbidden fruit - ruined by shared fryers and cross-contamination.

Not here. Because their kitchen is 100% gluten free, you finally get to experience the real deal. They coat tender chicken in a vibrant, savoury South American Sazon spice blend and fry it to an aggressive, shatter-in-your-mouth crunch. It’s juicy on the inside, perfectly golden on the outside.

2

"The Golden"
Beef Empanada

If you’ve eaten gluten free for a while, you know the heartbreak of dry, cardboard-like pastry. This empanada is different. They’ve perfected a golden, beautifully flaky crust that gives way to a rich, deeply savoury, slow-cooked beef filling. It’s the ultimate handheld comfort food you probably thought you had to leave in your past. A word of warning: order your own, because trying to share this will start an argument at the table.

3

TWØBAYS Beer

There is a primal, undeniable joy in walking up to a bar and ordering a fresh, ice-cold pint straight from the tap. No settling for a sugary cider. No watching the bartender dust off a lone gluten free bottle from the back of the fridge. With 15 TWØBAYS taps pouring everything from crisp, to refreshing, they are giving you the true bar ritual back. Grab a pint, watch the condensation drip down the glass and clink glasses with your mates - exactly as it should be.

Local Intel: Reclaiming the Classic Bar Culture

The last thing you want when you're trying to enjoy a nice day/night out is a venue that feels clinical....

The Freehouse completely shatters that feel.

This isn't just a place to eat safely, it’s a place to actually hang out. Case in point? The pool table.

There is something incredibly liberating about grabbing a freshly poured pint of TWØBAYS off one of their 15 taps, walking over to the pool table and racking 'em up with your mates on a Friday night.

It’s the true Aussie bar experience - the casual banter, the cold beer, the spontaneous games - given back to a community that thought they had to give it up forever.

The Chef’s Promise

They didn’t just remove gluten. They looked to South America. Head Chef Matt Kennedy uses authentic South American techniques that are naturally gluten free by design. No cardboard crusts. No crumbling bread. Just produce-led, generous dishes packed with uncompromising flavour.

What the Gluten Free community is saying...

What a great place! A hidden completely gluten free gem. The food was delicious and fabulous gluten free beers on tap. Such a great initiative to have a completely safe coeliac restaurant. We'll be back often to support them.
We were lucky enough to rock up when they were having their soft launch. As a Ceoliac the food was amazing, beers on tap out of this world.

The fired chicken was some of the best gf I’ve had, the burger bun was one of the best I’ve ever tasted, staff were excellent and gave advice.
Spent a wonderful, slow Sunday afternoon here with a group of friends, enjoying the vibes.

The 100% coeliac-friendly menu is diverse, with big and small plates to cater to everyone - vegans included. Service was really friendly, despite the place being busy and newly opened.

I'm sure it will go from strength to strength. Oh, and the GF beers were fantastic, too!
